On a very chilly Friday evening on 27 June 2025, members of the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise (RCCS) gathered at the Royal Military College at Duntroon to host a barbeque in support of the ADF Medallion Event for the Defence Member and Family Support Organisation.

Our preparation commenced at 3pm with Peter driving the BBQ trailer to Duntroon where Roger, Greg and Suzanne assisted in the setup, cooking and serving (next to the hot popcorn machine)!

It was a coolish 7 degrees C at 3pm, but once the sun started to dip towards the horizon, the temperature dropped dramatically to Minus 1 as we finished around 8pm – perfect weather for a hot sausage sizzle!

We served 170 sausages and 92 drinks to children and their ADF parents alike, who all seemed to be very happy with their sausage sandwiches with and without onion.

Whilst not a large fundraising activity for the Club, we consider it was another great demonstration of our community service – in this case putting smiles on the faces of young families of those serving in our Australian Defence Forces.  The Community Centre team were very appreciative of our support and providing them with an iconic Australia cuisine option for the event.
