On Friday 3 July 2026, the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise came together for a joyous celebration of everything Rotary!
The evening was relaxed and enjoyable and the festivities were conducted in the presence of Previous District Governor Bob Greeney.
Early in the evening, club members quietly commemorated the recent passing of long-time stalwart club member and former club President Dr Garth Britton, whose committment to the club and to Rotary was second to none, spending many years as the Rotary coordinator for Peace Fellows, and also the coordinator for many Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) events.
Recently, the Rotary District 9705 awards were announced. RCCS Club President Rosemary Everett's award of District Rotarian of the Year was revered and celebrated, as was her leadership of the club during 2025 - 2026.
Later in the evening, President Rosemary presented Certificates of Appreciation to club members Alan McCulloch, Roger Crosthwaite, and Kim Barrett. President Rosemary then recognised three club members with Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Awards for their service to the club and to the community: David Elder, Helen Deutsch, and Neil Spalding. David Elder, Ainslie Sowden and Dr Peter McDermott AM CSC also received PHF recognition for their contributions to The Rotary Foundation (a 6th PHF for Peter!).
The last official duty of the evening arrived when Club President Rosemary Everett relinquished her Presidency to Ainslie Sowden who will lead the club for 2026 - 2027 vowing to "create lasting impact".
