Fund Raising
4 May Virtual Tupperware Party - Supporting Timor Leste Flood Recovery
Thanks again to the wonderful generosity of Tupperware guru and friend of the club Steph McCorkelle, we ran our second virtual Tupperware fund raising night on Tuesday 4 May. All funds raised from the event are being donated to groups supporting the recovery and rebuilding of those Timor Leste residents and facilities in and around Dili who were badly affected by the early April extreme flooding event. The $1,559 raised for this important cause has been transferred to the Rotary Club of Dili, who will determine the best options for distribution of support and aid locally in conjunction with other funding that has been made available to the club.
The following message was received from RC Dili advising of their activities as at early June:
Emergency Relief Food & Essential Goods Distribution. District 9550 are currently in a fund raising program for this cause. So far District has forwarded $3115-34 from this fund, and Club members , so farhave organized the distribution of Rice, Cooking Oil, and bags of used cloths in distraught areas as Tasi Tolu (250 families), Becora and Bobonuk. A detailed survey of those most in need was made by The Rotaract Club of Dili, who were given some funds to cover transport needs. Further needs exist with studies of students in the Manleuana market area; families in the outer most areas of Becora, and those in the hill slopes to the South East of Dili.
The amount remaining, approx $1000 is planned to be distributed to 135 Rotaract surveyed families in the area of Hera to the East of Dili. The items to be purchased and distributed are Rice, Oil and Salt, with bags of used clothing, plus some detergent and bath soap, and if funds permit also sleeping mats, Mossi nets, Blankets and a length of canvas for tentage.
The Club has established priority groups for these distributions, i,e, 1. Pregnant Women, 2. Mothers and Children under 3 years and 3. Widows, with each person/family given the value of $25 per unit.
With Kind Regards and Best Wishes

Another Great BBQ Fund Raiser
We were fortunate to be allocated another Bunnings BBQ on Saturday 12th June. Again the weather was challenging, but our team's spirits remained high, helped by Ian's music. It was probably the busiest BBQ we have done. Overall we raised over $1,100 to support our community service projects going forward.
Special thanks to Mitra, Wazma and Shahla (Mira's sisters), Simon, Peter, Ian, Patricia, Pip, Emma and Sylvia for their great efforts and fun times on the day.

Lids4Kids Lids Sorting Activity
Our planned community service event of a Lids4Kids lid sorting activity has been deferred. Details will be provided once a revised date has been confirmed.
Background on Lids4Kids: In just 18 months, Lids4Kids has diverted an estimated 15 million plastic lids from landfill. This is a remarkable effort, given the Lids4Kids founder, Tim Miller, started the project with a donations bucket he placed on the footpath outside his home and has coordinated the whole campaign from his garage. It has now expanded significantly. More background on the charity and its impact is available
here.
Kate is our lead on this wonderful event.

Helping the Environment - 19 June - Jerrabomberra Wetlands Support
On the morning of 19th June, Peter, Ian and Kate joined a small team from the Friends of Jerrabomberra Wetlands undertaking some pest clearing work and digging 46 holes in preparation for a Junior Ranger tree planting activity the following day. Despite a cool start, it wasn't long before the sun was out, and our layers came off as we got into the work. We saw plenty of wildlife, including a very friendly black swan, a kookaburra, kangaroos and a possum. We learnt a lot from the Friends of the Wetlands and overall had a great fun and productive couple of hours.

Future Community Service Activities
Plans are progressing on a range of activities to be held over coming months.
(If you have ideas for more community service ideas contact Community Service Director Peter or incoming Service Director Kate or raise them at one of our club meetings. We are always looking for more ways to support our community!)
